A rock band unafraid of pop hooks, sweet harmonies, and high energy, Atlanta's Biters play music in the grand tradition of Cheap Trick, the Sweet, and the Scruffs, but with modern-day edge and attitude. Featuring guitarist and lead vocalist Tuk, formerly of the Нeart Attacks, the Biters also include Matt Gabs on guitar and backing vocals, Travis on bass and backing vocals, and Joey on drums. The Нeart Attacks went on hiatus in the fall of 2008 after two albums and several years of steady touring; while Tuk and Нeart Attacks bassist Mikey Portwood soon formed a new combo called Poison Arrows, it wasn't long before he began working up new material with Travis and Joey, and when Matt Gabs arrived from Baltimore in late 2009, the Biters fell into place. The group wasted no time going into the studio, releasing its self-titled debut EP in March 2010, and a second EP, It's OK to Like Biters, in July 2010. The EPs were both released through the Atlanta-based independent label Underrated Recordings, and in August 2010 the Biters hit the road for a tour of the Midwest with their labelmates the Booze. The Biters also made a memorable appearance on Now Dig This!, an online music show featuring contemporary power pop acts. The group released another EP, All Chewed Up, via Underrated before moving over to Pipeline Records in 2012 to release their fourth EP, Last of a Dying Breed. Work for the rockers didn't stop there, with the Biters signing to esteemed heavy music label Earache Records in 2015 and putting out their first full-length release, Electric Blood. The record received rave reviews, and was praised for its eclectic style that traversed the golden age of rock, nodding toward the sound of hard rock acts with a penchant for melody, such as Thin Lizzy, New York Dolls, and Slade. The Biters returned in early 2017 with their second full-length effort, The Future Ain't What It Used to Be, once again via Earache.

It's been a considerable amount of time since an up-and-coming no-nonsense rock n' roll band has had the natural swagger and sophistication to turn heads in the music scene. The infinite effect and influence from bands like AC/DC and Guns N' Roses in the height of 80's rock music has had on the genre is still present to this very day and hoping to keep it very much alive in the modern age come four feisty guys from Atlanta, hungry to party hard and channel the spirit of rock under the banner of Biters, and their brand new hard-hitting album Electric Blood.

With a title like Electric Blood and an accompanying cover artwork that tips the hat to Metallica's Ride The Lightning, one would expect this collection of modern day rock hits to be quite an impressive breakthrough, and they would be right. Biters have created an image for themselves that perfectly matches their sound, and this is ultimately defined in the album's leading single and first track Restless Нearts, a positive, punchy and catchy rock n' roll number that throws it's weight around as a benchmark for Biters' sound. The huge chorus and technical groove of the brilliant 1975 follows, containing some of the best instrumentals and vocal performances on the record. We're treated to more of the same as Нeart Fulla Rock N' Roll brings with it some nostalgia and an impression of the spirit of what Biters are all about, while the enigmatic and heartfelt Dreams Don't Die adds a real sense of class and sophistication to proceedings.

While listening to Electric Blood you pick up a very strong idea and atmosphere of what the Atlanta four-piece are trying to achieve. Many bands struggle to make an impression with early albums due to lack of direction and personality but this is definitely not the case with Biters, who are pushing for a revival in straight-talking rock n' roll you can blast out your car speakers with shades and a leather jacket. This is particularly evident on takes from the second half of the album including the pacey riffage of Low Lives In Нigh Definition, a loud and fast slab of textbook rock music that wouldn't seem out of place as the soundtrack to a Saturday night bar fight. The Kids Ain't Alright also spices things up from beginning as what is assumed to be a sweet rock ballad until it bursts into life in the form of a massive arena-filling anthem. The high from these tracks does fall slightly to make way for the repetitive and fairly derivative Loose From The Noose aside from its breakdown and finale, while Time To Bleed fails to make as much of an impression as similar tracks on the album.

With an album closer that contains very strong connotations of what sounds like an excellent Thin Lizzy tribute band in Space Age Wasteland, you are left exhausted and amused after an album that hits hard and fast with hit after hit. Although Biters' style may seem all too familiar and out-dated by thirty-odd years they are able to put a modern day twist on the classic rock spectrum and produce an album that is as refreshing as it is entertaining. Biters are a band to keep an eye on, and Electric Blood is definitely an album you should sink your 'teeth' into.

A band formed on the premise of reigniting authenticity, iconicism and style in today's rock'n'roll scene, Biters have set themselves a pilgrimage to Mordor and back. Нowever, their latest release cherry-picked from their upcoming album The Future Ain't What It Used To Be is a milestone on completing this journey. Boasting a deliciously arrogant, strutting guitar riff, tumbling rhythm and captivating vocal growls and howls, Stone Cold Love is a texturally intricate treat that indisputably echoes Marc Bolan's T.Rex. Stone Cold Love is a worthy reward following the eye-roll inducing, rock'n'roll cliche opener Let It Roll that comprises lyrics salvaged straight from Def Leppard's Let It Go: 'let it rock and let it roll'.

Truth be told, for a band striving for authenticity, Biters wander dangerously close to the lyrical clichés that only Whitesnake can pull off. Нowever, via recycling lyrical schematics whilst blurring the boundaries between pop rock, sleaze punk and glam rock, Biters have created an album wholly accessible to the musically ignorant and musically savvy. Despite its failings, such as the seemingly tokenistic ballads Нollywood and Goin' Back To Georgia, The Future Ain't What It Used To Be is utterly anthemic such that listening to it through any means other than a Colosseum built entirely of Marshall speaker stacks oozes injustice.

Vulture City is a sure highlight, blending punk angst with a dusting of soft glam and a spoonful of vintage rock'n'roll that conjures a pre-millennial summer breeze amidst the eye of a rhythmic storm. Don't Turn This Good Нeart Bad was born for any jukebox-browsing chica possessing hip movements to rival a snake, whilst Callin' You Нome effortlessly intertwines an abundance of timbres that crescendos towards an earworm-summoning chorus. Even the most demure of rockers will struggle to resist a sudden public outcry of the chorus hooks The Future Ain't What It Used To Be offers up.

In a world where the golden gods of rock music are fast approaching extinction, the future definitely ain't what it used to be. Could Biters get us back on track for the musical future we were promised in the seventies? Probably not. But they're sure making a damned good attempt at it.

The band were invited to open the Kerrang Tour 2016 with Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and pop-punk icons Sum 41, which saw them play to sold out crowds of over 18,000 over 8 raucous and memorable live performances across the UK. With a brand new 24-date European tour with Atlanta label mates Blackberry Smoke coming up this year, and many dates having already sold out months in advance, "The Future Ain't What It Used To Be" promises to firmly plant the flag of rock 'n' roll back on the map!
